Recently BIKE’s review staff stayed in Brevard and evaluated this year’s equipment in nearby Pisgah and DuPont Forests. A local newspaper describes their experience.

We frequently have mountain bikers stay at Blue Ridge Cozy Cabin since it’s very convenient to nearby trails in both DuPont and Pisgah. We are impressed with their vigor and enthusiasm for the sport. Recently it rained for two of the four days one group was here. When we said we were sorry they had to put up with the rain they exclaimed that they loved it! The wet trails added to their challenge and excitement.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is the nation’s longest national park and has spectacular views. This article from Motorcycle Cruiser gives more details. In addition, the state roads are in good condition and many are hilly and winding and have some wonderful vistas.

And Blue Ridge Cozy Cabin is on eight secluded acres. You have it all to yourself and don’t need to worry about disturbing others as you leave for your early morning ride.

Yesterday Dianne took our 9 year old granddaughter, Emilie, to the annual White Squirrel Festivalin Brevard. They had a blast. Emilie came home with her face painted and all excited about the bouncy balls and inflatable slides she romped on. Dianne said the music was great and there were some really unique craft booths. And of couse, lots of food.

The town was trying to set a Guinness record for the most people in white squirrel costumes. The TV crews were there to capture it all. We don’t know yet if the record was broken.

I asked Emilie to bring me back a squirrel sandwich or a “squirrel-on-a-stick”. She said she looked all over the festival but couldn’t find any. Ah, there’s nothing like the sense of superiority that comes from fooling a 9 year old!
