Blue Ridge Barbecue Festival

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

We love this annual barbecue  festival. It’s June 11 and 12 at Harmon Field in nearby Tryon. With competitors from many states, the food is amazing. The festival is very well organized. Parking and shuttle services run very efficiently. There is ample room to wander around, visit the booths, or just relax and enjoy a good variety of live music.

Are Motorcycles Permitted?

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

Motorcycles are welcomed (and so are their riders).  Western North Carolina is known for its great ride venues. The Blue Ridge Parkway is the nation’s longest national park and has spectacular views.  This article from Motorcycle Cruiser gives more details.  In addition, the state roads are in good condition and many are hilly and winding and have some wonderful vistas.

And Blue Ridge Cozy Cabin is on eight secluded acres. You have it all to yourself and don’t need to worry about disturbing others as you leave for your early morning ride.

Free Ice Cream

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

The annual Celebrate Flat Rock day will be held this Saturday, June 5.  It’s always a fun afternoon for the younger kids. They get free ice cream, face-painting, balloon-making, and fake tattoos.

For the adults there’s good live music, pottery making, a half-price day at the Book Exchange, and walking tours of the Carl Sandburg house. And at 8 PM, the NC State Theater at Flat Rock Playhouse presents Old Glory, a critically acclaimed musical.
